Rescue workers dig out a resident buried by a mountain of trash that collapsed on the houses at the Payatas dump site in Quezon City in July, 2000. After severe flooding from two tropical typhoons, the huge garbage dump became a sodden, unstable mass which then collapsed and burst into flames. At least 200 were killed, scores wounded, and some 800 families left homeless.
